Parking Lot Signage Requirements: ADA, Wayfinding & Compliance
Complete guide to parking lot signage requirements. ADA accessible signs, wayfinding, rate posting, fire lane signs, towing notices, and compliance best practices.
ADA Accessible Parking Signs
Each accessible space requires an ISA sign mounted at 60 inches minimum. Van-accessible spaces need additional designation. The number of accessible spaces scales with lot capacity — from 1 space for 1–25 total spaces up to 2% for lots over 1,000.
Fire Lane, Towing, and Rate Signs
Fire lane signs, towing notices with company name and phone, rate signs at entrances of paid facilities, and payment method signs are all legally required. Missing signs expose you to fines, litigation, and lost revenue.
Wayfinding and Safety Signage
Entrance/exit signs, speed limits, pedestrian crossings, garage level identification, clearance heights, and emergency exits. Color-coded level systems significantly reduce driver confusion and improve the parking experience.
