Wireless EV Charging for Parking Lots
FCC-approved wireless inductive EV charging for parking lots. 25kW pads compatible with Tesla Cybercab and autonomous vehicles. Installation and management.
How does wireless EV charging work?
Wireless EV charging uses magnetic resonance coupling — a transmitter pad embedded in or placed on the parking surface creates an alternating magnetic field, which is captured by a receiver pad on the vehicle's underside and converted to electricity. The technology operates at 25kW (Tesla Cybercab specification), achieving 90–93% transfer efficiency across a 6–10 inch air gap.
How much does wireless EV charging cost to install?
A single wireless charging pad costs $35,000–$80,000 installed, including the transmitter pad, power electronics, communication module, and installation labor. A 10-pad installation typically costs $400,000–$600,000. The Section 30C tax credit covers 30% (up to $30,000 per property), reducing net costs significantly.
Is wireless charging efficient enough for commercial use?
Yes. Modern wireless charging systems achieve 90–93% energy transfer efficiency — comparable to wired Level 2 charging (92–95%). At 25kW output, a wireless pad delivers approximately 200 miles of range over an 8-hour overnight session. For robotaxi depots and fleet operations, this efficiency is more than adequate.
Why do autonomous vehicles need wireless charging?
Autonomous vehicles can't manually plug in a charging cable — there's no driver to connect it. Wireless inductive charging eliminates this barrier entirely. The vehicle simply parks over the charging pad and charging begins automatically. This is why Tesla designed the Cybercab exclusively for wireless charging from day one.
When will wireless EV charging be widely available?
Now. The FCC approved Tesla's 25kW wireless charging system in February 2026. Tesla Cybercab launches with wireless charging in 7 cities in 2026. SAE J2954 standardization enables cross-manufacturer compatibility. By 2028, wireless charging will be standard at robotaxi depots and premium parking facilities.
