The chargers

What EV chargers does Wins install for Wichita parking lots?

Level 2 chargers, which the Department of Energy puts at 2.9 to 19.2 kW, where cars stay for hours, and DC fast chargers up to 500 kW, which add 100 to 200+ miles in about 30 minutes.

Plant and office employee lots are the obvious Level 2 sites, along with apartments near Wichita State, hospital staff lots and hotels near the arena and airport. Fast charging fits retail on East Kellogg and North Rock Road, travel stops along I-35 and the Kansas Turnpike, and service fleets.

We draw it, permit it, build it and run it, and charging income lands in the same monthly report as parking.

The depot

What does a robotaxi charging depot in Wichita need?

Fast charging sized to a full day of driving, an Evergy capacity plan, a queue off the street, a wash and inspection bay, a rider curb, gated entry and cameras. As of Oct 14, 2026, no company had named Wichita for robotaxi service.

The nearest service we can cite is Tesla's Robotaxi in Dallas, about 340 miles south, which USA Today reported in April 2026 was running there and in Houston. That is regional context only; no operator has named Wichita, and Wins has no robotaxi work in Kansas.

An owner rebuilding today can leave room for a depot: transformer space for fast chargers, a queue long enough for shift-change traffic, a shaded or covered cleaning bay and a curb for riders away from the chargers. Our autonomous vehicle parking overview, future-proof design guide and EV and AV deployment guide walk through it.

The network

How many public EV charging ports does Wichita have?

67 Level 2 and 41 DC fast ports at 47 public stations with Wichita addresses, per Department of Energy data pulled Oct 14, 2026.

Overland Park, a third the size of Wichita by land area, lists more than four times as many Level 2 ports. Salina, about 85 miles north on I-135, has 26 and 18, and Hutchinson 19 and 6.

Our EV charging ports database tracks Wichita's count monthly from the same federal source.

The power

Which utility serves Wichita chargers, and what rebates does it pay?

Evergy serves Wichita. In Kansas its business rebates reach up to $55,000 for public charging (up to six Level 2 ports, plus up to two DC fast), up to $65,000 for fleets and up to $25,000 each for workplace and multifamily sites.

Those rebates change the math more than anything else on a Wichita project. A workplace with ten Level 2 ports can recover a large share of hardware and installation, and a fleet yard can cover part of its fast chargers. We apply before ordering equipment, since the rebate terms set what qualifies. Evergy's Business EV rate also rewards charging outside the 4 to 8 p.m. peak, which suits overnight fleets.

Evergy also reviews whether the transformer can carry the load. We file that request first, because its timeline usually sets the opening date.

The code

Which permits and codes apply to EV charging stations in Wichita?

An electrical permit from MABCD, an electrician licensed as Kansas allows under local law, wiring to NEC Article 625 and an accessible stall built to the U.S. Access Board's guidance.

Outside the CBD, converting standard stalls to charging can reduce a required count, so we check Article IV first. A new transformer pad may need site plan review. MABCD posts no review target; we plan three to six weeks, an estimate.

The accessible stall goes in the drawing first: a level route, controls within reach and an aisle wide enough for a ramp.

The incentives

Which EV charging incentives are open in Kansas?

Evergy's business rebates, plus KDOT's federally funded Charge Up Kansas NEVI program for corridor fast charging. The federal 30C credit cannot be claimed for charging property placed in service after June 30, 2026 (IRS, Instructions for Form 8911).

KDOT's second NEVI round awarded about $6.8 million for nine stations in October 2024, and a third round's requests for proposals went out in July 2026. A travel stop near I-35 might suit a future round; an office lot would not. The IRS instructions close 30C to new chargers.

So for most Wichita owners, the Evergy rebate and charging revenue carry the project.

The budget

What does an EV charger installation cost in Wichita, and how long does it take?

Our planning figures put six Level 2 ports at about $21,300 to $48,000 installed in Wichita and four DC fast ports at about $178,000 to $533,000, before any Evergy rebate.

Six Level 2 ports fits inside Evergy's Kansas public charging rebate. Trench length, panel capacity and, for fast charging, a new Evergy service drive most of the variation.

We plan 8–16 weeks for Level 2 on an existing panel and 26–52 weeks for fast charging on new service. Costs scale national per-port figures and AFDC's installation guidance by the metro's BEA index of 88.9. Surface work fits the 5-month warm season.

A Wins Parking estimate, not a quote: Level 2 at $4,000–$9,000 installed per port (U.S. average), scaled by Wichita's BEA cost index of 88.9. Trenching distance, panel and transformer upgrades and utility lead time move it most. The federal 30C credit cannot be claimed for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026.

The day to day

How are Wichita chargers run day to day?

On the platform that runs the gates. Wins sets prices per hour or kWh, adds idle fees once a car is full, watches each port at all hours, cites gas cars in EV stalls and reports charging and parking together.

For a fleet on Evergy's business rate, we schedule charging after 8 p.m. so the trucks are full by morning without peak pricing. A unit that faults pages our operations desk, which resets it remotely or sends a technician. Monthly reports cover energy, uptime, income and citations.

The neighbors

How does Wichita compare with nearby cities for EV charging?

Wichita's 67 Level 2 and 41 fast ports lead south-central Kansas; Topeka has 21 and 22, and Emporia, on the Turnpike, 4 and 17, per AFDC data pulled Oct 14, 2026.

Evergy serves Wichita and every comparison city in the table, so the same rebate menu applies across the region. Permit offices differ city by city, and none of them publishes a review target.
