The chargers

Which EV chargers suit Salt Lake City parking lots?

Salt Lake City lists 522 public Level 2 and 109 DC fast ports in AFDC data pulled Oct 14, 2026; Level 2 fits downtown offices, the university and hospitals, and fast charging fits fleets near the airport and I-15.

Downtown offices, apartments near TRAX stations and the hospital and university campuses suit Level 2. Fast charging fits the logistics parks west of the airport and travelers on I-15 and I-80.

Our Salt Lake City EV charging station installation guide covers the service; this page adds Rocky Mountain Power's rebates and the city data.

The depot

What does a Salt Lake City robotaxi charging depot need?

No operator has announced Salt Lake City as of Oct 14, 2026; the nearest city on Waymo's list is Las Vegas, about 362 miles southwest.

When a fleet arrives, its depot will need fast chargers, staging, cleaning bays, a rider curb and gated entry, plus plowable layouts for 51.9 inches of snow a year at the airport.

Owners redeveloping near the airport or the inland port area can reserve transformer pads and conduit now. Background: autonomous vehicle parking, future-proof parking design and the EV and AV deployment guide. See also robotaxi depot design in Salt Lake City.

Industrial land near the airport and along the I-215 belt gives a future depot room to stage cars and store plowed snow, which matters as much as charger count here.

The network

How many public EV chargers does Salt Lake City have?

Salt Lake City has 204 public stations with 522 Level 2 and 109 DC fast ports, per AFDC data pulled Oct 14, 2026.

For a city of about 200,000 that is a dense network, with many ports at downtown workplaces, campuses and public garages.

Month-by-month figures sit in our EV charging ports by metro research.

The 204 stations average 3.1 ports, and about 17% of ports are fast. A row of twelve at one lot would rank among the larger public sites in the city.

The power

Which utility serves Salt Lake City chargers, and what does it offer?

Rocky Mountain Power pays Utah business charger rebates for workplace, community and multifamily sites.

Amounts vary by site type, so we confirm eligibility before design and apply before equipment is ordered. The utility also reviews capacity first.

A year of bills and the panel schedule, gathered at the first visit, show how much spare capacity the site has.

The code

Which permits and codes apply to EV chargers in Salt Lake City?

Salt Lake City Building Services cites 30 days for commercial review. Wiring follows NEC Article 625, and accessible stalls follow U.S. Access Board guidance.

Table 21A.44.040-A sets a minimum and a maximum for each use, updated in October 2022. Converting stalls has to keep the count between both.

Thirty days is the published review; Rocky Mountain Power's service work runs on its own clock, so we file both together.

The incentives

What EV charging incentives are open to Salt Lake City sites?

Rocky Mountain Power's rebates lead; Utah programs are listed on the AFDC state page.

Owners here can no longer plan on 30C; the IRS Instructions for Form 8911 end it for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026.

Workplace and multifamily sites get the most from these rebates.

Rocky Mountain Power's amounts differ for workplace, community and multifamily sites, so we confirm the site type with the utility before design.

The budget

What does EV charger installation cost in Salt Lake City, and how long does it take?

Twelve Salt Lake City Level 2 ports run about $48,400 to $109,000 installed and four DC fast ports about $202,000 to $605,000, before rebates, by our estimate.

The city's BEA index of 100.9 is close to the national average. We scale national per-port costs and AFDC's installation guidance to it; frozen ground moves trenching to warmer months.

Expect roughly 8–16 weeks for a Level 2 job on spare capacity and 26–52 for a fast-charging job with new service, after permits, by our estimate.

Per port, Salt Lake City comes to about $4,033 to $9,083 for Level 2 and $50,500 to $151,250 for fast charging before Rocky Mountain Power's incentives, by our estimate. Frozen ground can delay trenching to spring.

A Wins Parking estimate, not a quote: Level 2 at $4,000–$9,000 installed per port (U.S. average), scaled by Salt Lake City's BEA cost index of 100.9. Trenching distance, panel and transformer upgrades and utility lead time move it most. The federal 30C credit cannot be claimed for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026.

The day to day

How are Salt Lake City chargers run day to day?

We operate Salt Lake City sites remotely and on foot: dynamic session pricing, idle fees once the grace period ends, 24-hour fault alerts, stall enforcement and a monthly statement for the owner.

Plow routes are planned around the chargers, and units are checked before winter.

The Salt Lake City parking management page covers gates and enforcement; EV charging parking management covers the charging side.

Salt Lake City International's normals show 51.9 inches of snow a year and a coldest-month low near 24°F, with 5 months averaging lows at or above 50°F. Winter inversions trap cold air in the valley for days, so we choose cold-rated cables, mount units above plow height and check every port before the first storm.

The neighbors

How does Salt Lake City compare with nearby metros for EV charging?

Salt Lake City's 522 Level 2 ports are nearly four times Boise's 136, about 294 miles northwest, per AFDC data pulled Oct 14, 2026.

Rocky Mountain Power also serves parts of Idaho, but Boise is on Idaho Power, which lists no business rebate.

Denver, about 378 miles east, has 1,411 public Level 2 ports and Waymo service.
