EV AND ROBOTAXI CHARGING · MILWAUKEE, WI
EV Charger and Robotaxi Charging Installation in Milwaukee, WI
Wins Parking plans, permits, installs and operates EV chargers and fleet charging sites for Milwaukee properties. The Department of Energy lists 135 public Level 2 and 33 DC fast ports in the city. We Energies runs a business charger pilot that helps pay for utility-side infrastructure at larger sites, those adding at least 150 kW of new charging.

The chargers
What EV chargers does Wins install for Milwaukee parking?
Level 2 chargers, 2.9 to 19.2 kW in Department of Energy terms, for long stays, and DC fast chargers up to 500 kW that add 100 to 200+ miles in about 30 minutes.
Downtown office garages, Third Ward and East Side apartments, hospital staff lots and hotels near the convention center are Level 2 sites. Fast charging fits retail along the freeways, stops near the Marquette Interchange and delivery and rideshare fleets.
We design, permit, install and run each site, and charging appears in the same report as parking.
The depot
What does a Milwaukee robotaxi charging depot need?
Fast charging matched to fleet miles, a We Energies capacity plan, an off-street queue, heated wash and sensor-cleaning bays, a rider curb, gated entry and cameras. As of Oct 14, 2026, no operator had named Milwaukee.
The closest announced city we can cite is Detroit, about 251 miles east across Lake Michigan, where Waymo said in November 2025 it is coming. That is regional context, not a Milwaukee plan, and Wins has no robotaxi work in Wisconsin.
A rebuild can keep options open: electrical room for fast chargers, a queue long enough for winter mornings, an indoor cleaning bay for salt season and a separate rider curb. Our autonomous vehicle parking, future-proof design and EV and AV deployment guides explain the steps.
The network
How many public EV charging ports does Milwaukee have?
135 Level 2 and 33 DC fast ports at 70 public stations with Milwaukee addresses, per Department of Energy data pulled Oct 14, 2026.
That is fewer than Madison has, in a city nearly twice Madison's size. Waukesha, west on I-94, lists 19 fast ports, and Kenosha has 17 Level 2 and 15 fast.
Milwaukee's row in our EV charging ports database updates monthly from the same source.
The power
Which utility serves Milwaukee chargers, and what does it offer?
We Energies serves Milwaukee. Its business EV charger pilot gives allowances toward utility-side infrastructure for new Level 2 or fast-charging installations of at least 150 kW, with specific demand rates, and customers must apply before installing.
The 150 kW floor means a single fast charger or a large Level 2 bank can qualify, while a small office install would not. We size projects with that threshold in mind.
We Energies also reviews whether service can take the load and designs any transformer upgrade; we start that review first.
The code
Which permits and codes apply to EV charging in Milwaukee?
An electrical permit from the Department of Neighborhood Services, a contractor licensed through Wisconsin DSPS, wiring to NEC Article 625 and an accessible space following the U.S. Access Board's guidance.
In C9 downtown districts, converting stalls to charging raises no minimum issue; elsewhere we check §295-403 first. A transformer pad may need plan review. DNS lists no review target, so we budget three to six weeks, an estimate.
The accessible space comes first in the layout, with a level path, side aisle and controls within reach.
The incentives
Which EV charging incentives are open in Wisconsin?
We Energies' pilot for larger sites, and WisDOT's WEVI program, which made 53 conditional first-round NEVI awards on May 23, 2024. The federal 30C credit does not cover chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026 (IRS, Instructions for Form 8911).
WEVI targets corridor fast charging, and 46 of the 53 first-round awards include Tesla-style NACS connectors. A travel stop on I-94 might fit a later round; a downtown office garage would not. The IRS instructions end 30C for new chargers.
For most Milwaukee owners, tenant demand and the utility pilot shape the decision.
The budget
What does EV charger installation cost in Milwaukee, and how long does it take?
By our estimate, ten Level 2 ports cost about $38,800 to $87,200 installed in Milwaukee and two DC fast ports about $97,000 to $291,000, before any utility allowance.
Older downtown garages can take more wiring work; surface lots spend more on trenching. Fast charging typically needs new service from We Energies.
Expect 8–16 weeks for Level 2 on an existing panel and 26–52 weeks for fast charging on new service, by our estimate. Ranges start from national per-port costs and AFDC's installation guidance, scaled by Milwaukee's BEA index of 96.9.

A Wins Parking estimate, not a quote: Level 2 at $4,000–$9,000 installed per port (U.S. average), scaled by Milwaukee's BEA cost index of 96.9. Trenching distance, panel and transformer upgrades and utility lead time move it most. The federal 30C credit cannot be claimed for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026.
The day to day
How are Milwaukee chargers run day to day?
On the platform that runs the gates: Wins sets prices, adds idle fees after a grace period, monitors ports around the clock, cites gas cars in EV stalls and reports charging and parking together.
On game nights, chargers near the arena can be reserved for prepaid customers or opened to everyone, and idle fees keep cars from sitting through a full game. Our desk sees faults as they happen and resets units remotely or sends a technician. Reports cover energy, uptime, income and citations.

FAQ
Milwaukee EV and robotaxi charging: frequently asked questions
Wins Parking does. We design, permit, install and run Level 2 chargers for Milwaukee apartment owners, with resident billing through the parking system. We estimate a Level 2 port at $4,000–$9,000 installed at U.S. average prices.
Wins Parking plans depot-ready lots with high-power charging, stacking lanes, heated cleaning bays, pickup zones and gated access. No robotaxi operator had announced Milwaukee as of October 2026, and Wins has no robotaxi client in Wisconsin.
135 Level 2 and 33 DC fast ports at 70 public stations, per Department of Energy data pulled Oct 14, 2026.
It provides allowances toward utility-side infrastructure for new Level 2 or DC fast installations of at least 150 kW, with specific demand rates. Customers must apply before installing.
WisDOT's WEVI program made 53 conditional first-round NEVI awards in May 2024 for corridor fast charging. It does not fund typical office or apartment lots.
Not for new chargers. The IRS Instructions for Form 8911 exclude property placed in service after June 30, 2026.
An electrical permit from the Department of Neighborhood Services, a DSPS-licensed contractor, NEC Article 625 wiring and an accessible space following U.S. Access Board guidance.
About 8–16 weeks for Level 2 on existing service and 26–52 weeks for fast charging that needs new We Energies service, by our estimate.
